Associate Professor
Department of Biological Sciences
University of the Pacific

I integrate physiology, behavior, and ecology to provide new insight into the dynamics by which two factors -- tradeoffs and the environment -- influence important aspects of the animal phenotype. For more information, click here to see my CV.
Though this site focuses on the lab's research, I am also dedicated to providing dynamic and active-learning environments for a number of courses. At Pacific, I teach:
Environment: Concepts & Issues (BIOL 035) - A course for non-majors that explores environmental issues, including climate change, sustainability, and urbanization
Principles of Biology Lab (BIOL 051) - A hands-on introductory lab for biologists focusing on ecology and evolution
Principles of Biology (BIOL 061) - An introductory course for budding biologists that examines life from the molecule to the organism
Ecology (BIOL 175) - An upper-level, core course focusing on the dynamics of populations, communities, and ecosystems
Graduate Seminar (BIOL 295) and Science Communication (BIOL 293) - Graduate-level courses focused on improving oral and written science communication skills
I also taught the following courses at Georgia Southern University (GSU):
General Biology (BIOL 1130) - A course for non-majors that explores the importance and applicability of biology to everyday life
Principles of Biology I Lab (BIOL 2107 L) - An introductory laboratory course that gives students the opportunity to address hypotheses while gaining hands-on experience with cellular and molecular techniques
Principles of Physiology (BIOL 3099) - A mid-level course covering the fundamental aspects of physiology that unify plants and animals
Comparative Animal Physiology (BIOL 5230) - An upper-level course covering physiological processes and organ systems across animal taxa
Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy (BIOL 5241) - An upper-level, dissection-intensive course that explores the evolution of the vertebrate body plan-- from sharks to cats
For more information about these courses, feel free to contact me!
